Suspension of Fuel Surcharge Increase (15/09/2005)
British Airways World Cargo today announced that it has suspended an increase in its fuel surcharge. The airline's fuel index has risen to a level that would have triggered a rise to GBP0.37/kg or local currency equivalent.
The extreme volatility of the market, coupled with the fuel shortage created by the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, has led BA World Cargo to suspend an increase to the fuel surcharge. The suspension will be reviewed weekly and BA World Cargo reserves the right to change this decision at any time.
Keith Packer, Senior Vice President Commercial, said: "The fuel index for the last two weeks has been above the level 11 trigger point and in light of the exceptional volatility we will not immediately increase the fuel surcharge in line with the index, whilst we review cost trends. We will review this situation again next week."
