BA World Cargo opens new freighter route from Prestwick (06/10/2006)
BA World Cargo is introducing a new freighter route to the US from Prestwick (PIK) airport from October 11. The new route has been developed in response to an increase in exports of heavy manufacturing goods from the region and reinforces BA World Cargo's position as the number one carrier to the US, offering more direct flights to key destinations in North America than any other airline.
With two weekly flights to Atlanta and a weekly flight to Chicago and Houston, the new schedule will enable BA World Cargo's customers in Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the North of England to ship large consignments including oil well equipment and
engine parts in a timely fashion to key US hubs.
The oil well business out of Aberdeen, destined for Houston in particular, will make up a significant proportion of the carrier's cargo along with Rolls Royce aeronautical engineering equipment out of Belfast which is destined for Canada.
Chris Bosworth, general manager commercial development BA World Cargo comments "Heavy goods manufacturing now makes up a significant proportion of our customers' exports from the area and we've worked
closely with them to develop this new route which gives them greater flexibility in terms of later cut off times."
