Fuel Surcharge Increase (24/03/2005)
British Airways World Cargo today announced that it has increased its fuel surcharge to GBP0.26/kg or local currency equivalent, effective from 7th April 2005.
The increase to the fuel surcharge has been caused by the continued rise in fuel prices, causing the fuel index to exceed the level 8 threshold for two consecutive weeks.
The index was developed by British Airways World Cargo to provide customers with more information about the calculation of fuel surcharges. It is updated on a weekly basis and posted on the baworldcargo.com website.
To provide clarity for our customers in the event of further significant fuel price increases, British Airways World Cargo is also announcing two additional surcharge increments, as detailed in the table below.
Keith Packer, Senior Vice President Commercial, said: "The current instability of the market means that the fuel index has reached an all time high. This second increase in the surcharge in such a short space of time is regrettable but reflects our real fuel cost increases."
